Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/22/08)-- Concordia gave up two goals in the second period and one more in the third and fell to No.3-ranked Gustavus 3-0 on Friday in Moorhead. The Cobbers were outshot 28-8 in the game as they fall to 10-10-2 overall and 10-5-2 in the MIAC. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Concordia. The Gusties remain perfect in conference play. They are now 17-0-0 in league games and 22-2-0 overall. GAC has now won five straight games.

The two teams skated through a scoreless first period. In the opening 20 minutes, Gustavus carried the attack but the Cobbers were content on getting the puck out of their zone and trying to get opportunities on a quick counter attack. In the first period of play, the Gusties outshot Concordia by only a margin of 6-3.

The second period started in exactly the opposite fashion the Cobbers were hoping for. Instead of holding the high-powered Gusties off the board until the CC offense could find a sustained attack, the Cobbers conceded a goal just 1:42 into the period. Stefanie Uble was able to poach her team-leading 14th goal of the season off an assist from Jenny Pusch. Christine Wicker made the score 2-0 just over seven minutes later when she lifted the puck over CC goalie Maddie Haroldson. For Wicker it was her third goal of the year. Kirstin Peterson was credited with the assist.

The game stayed at 2-0 for the remainder of the second period and well into the third before Mari Gunderson finished off the scoring at 12:28 of the final frame.

Neither team was able to score on the power play in the game. The Cobbers went 0-for-3 and held Gustavus to 0-for-4 on the man-advantage situation. Concordia has not conceded a power play goal in the past 11 games. CC has not given up a goal on the power play in the 2008 calendar year and has held opponents scoreless in 34 straight power play chances.

Gustavus ended up with a 28-8 advantage in shots on goal. It is only the second time this season the Gusties have been held to under 30 shots on goal in a conference game.

Haroldson finished the game with 25 saves for Concordia, while Gustavus goalie Breanna Scavo made eight saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season.

The two teams will finish off the two-game series on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center. The game will be the final regular-season contest for both teams before they head off for the MIAC semifinals.
