Gameday Game Recap:

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/09/08)-- Concordia inched one step closer to earning their first MIAC playoff berth since the 2002-03 season as the Cobbers edged Augsburg 3-2 on Saturday. CC received a goal and an assist from junior Bre Bian and scored a pair of power play goals to climb within shouting distance of a spot in the postseason.

The win completes the weekend sweep over the Auggies and gives Concordia three MIAC series sweeps on the year. That is the most since they swept five series during the 2002-03 campaign. CC is now 8-4-2 in conference play and holds on to sole possession of third place. The Cobbers will most likely need only one more league win to clinch a spot in the five-team playoffs. Concordia ups their overall record to 8-4-2 on the year. Augsburg loses for the fifth straight game and falls to 3-10-1 in the MIAC and 3-15-1 overall.

Neither team was able to take more than a one-goal lead in the game. Augsburg struck the opening blow in the game when Katie Medd scored the first of her two goals in the game just 3:16 into the opening period. The lead would stay at 1-0 until 10:46 when Jen Bextermueller notched her fourth goal of the season on assists from Alyssa Dahl and Mandi Samuelson. The Cobbers took a 2-1 lead less than two minutes later when Bian scored her fifth goal of the year on the power play. Dahl picked up her second assist of the period and 10th of the season. Samuelson was also credited with her second assist of the game.

The teams would trade goals in the first seven minutes of the second period and then go on a goal-scoring drought for the remainder of the game. Medd picked up her second goal of the game to tie the score at 2-2 at 2:16. Kelsey Puffe then stepped up to poach the game-winning goal at 6:15. It was her first goal of the season and the second straight power play goal of the game for CC. Bian recorded her second point of the game as she was given her eighth assist of the year.

Maddie Haroldson made a rare back-to-back appearance in goal for Concordia. Less than 24 hours after blanking Augsburg 3-0, Haroldson made 28 saves and earned her fifth win of the year.  Toni Menth stopped 23 shots in goal for the Auggies.

Concordia was outshot Augsburg 30-26 in the game, but held a 63-53 advantage in shots in the series. The Cobbers' power play unit provided the difference in the game. CC was 2-for-4 on the power play as opposed to 0-for-5 for the Auggies.

The Cobbers will finish of the regular season with a pair of home series. Concordia will play St. Ben's on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16 and then host nationally-ranked Gustavus on Feb. 22-23.
