Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/17/07)-- If the power play units for Concordia and St. Kate's were out of power on Friday night, on Saturday, the power plays for both teams were out of batteries and the back-up generators failed to operate. The Cobbers were able to keep the Wildcats from scoring on their seven power play attempts on Saturday and came away with a 3-1 win to complete the two-game conference sweep. CC was able to score once on their eight tries and remained unbeaten in the MIAC at 2-0-0. The Cobbers are now 2-5-0 overall. St. Kate's remains winless on the season as they fall to 0-3-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.

The Cobbers came out with more energy than on Friday. They were able to control the play for the first two periods as they outshot the Wildcats 10-2 in the opening 20 minutes of play and 18-5 in the second period.

The only goal for CC in the first stanza came midway through the period. Freshman Kacey Franklin scored the first of her two goals in the game when she poked home a shot from in-close at 9:25. Abby Callahan and Kristyn Voegele were credited with the assists.

Despite outshooting the Wildcats 28-7 in the first two periods, CC was clinging to a one-goal lead.

Franklin gave Concordia a little breathing room when she netted her second goal of the game at the start of the third period. For Franklin, it was her third goal of the season and was the only power play goal in game that featured 15 man-advantage situations. St. Kate's trimmed the lead to 2-1 when Ali Minelli scored at 14:48. Just when it looked like CSC might make a push to get back into the contest, Concordia responded with a goal less than a minute later. Mandi Samuelson put the Cobbers over the top when she scored her third goal of the year at 15:32.

Concordia freshman goalie Julie York picked up her first collegiate victory by stopping 15 of the 16 shots she faced. York has allowed only one goal in back-to-back appearances and has a season goals against average of 1.72.

Wildcat goalie Amy Snyder made 35 saves in the game as Concordia outshot St. Kate's 38-16 for the three periods.

The Cobbers will have a two-week break for the Thanksgiving holiday and will return to action when they host Hamline in a two-game series on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. Both games will be held at the Moorhead Sports Center. The game on Dec. 1 will be played in the north rink.
