Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/10/07)-- The effort is there for the Concordia women's hockey team, the results have just been hard to come by at the start of the 2007-08 season. For the second straight night, the Cobbers lost by two to No.8-ranked UW-Superior after giving up an empty-net goal. On Saturday, CC couldn't crack the Yellowjackets defense and lost 2-0.

The loss extends Concordia's early-season losing streak to five games. The Cobbers are now 0-5-0 on the year. Superior, on the other end of the spectrum, wins for the fourth straight time to begin the year and ups their overall record to 4-0-0.

The Yellowjackets held the play throughout the game but Concordia was able to keep Superior off the scoreboard and rely on getting chances through quick breakouts up the ice. The game was tied 0-0 after one period. UWS finally broke onto the board at the start of the second period. With one of the Cobbers in the penalty box for a tripping call at the end of the first frame, Lindsey LeGree scored her third goal of the year on the power play at the 1:41 mark. The goal would prove to be the game-winner as Concordia was only able to get 14 shots on the Superior goal for the three periods.

The Yellowjackets were held off the board for the remainder of the game until CC pulled netminder Julie York in favor of an extra skater with 55 seconds left to go in the game. Superior then finished off the scoring by putting home a goal in the empty net with just 19 seconds remaining.

In the game, Superior outshot Concordia 35-14. The Cobbers were 0-for-3 on the power play and are now 3-for-23 in man-advantage situations for the season. The Yellowjackets scored on one of their two power play chances in the game.

York made 33 saves in goal for Concordia and dropped her season goals against average to 2.10. Superior goalie Rikki Nespor stopped 14 shots to earn her second straight shutout win. She is now 2-0 on the season and both have been shutouts.

The Cobbers will open MIAC play when they host St. Kate's on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. They finish off the two-game series with the Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the newly renovated Moorhead Sports Center.
