Gameday Game Recap:

BUFFALO, N.Y. (11/04/07)-- Concordia gave up three goals in the third period and lost 3-1 to Buffalo State in Buffalo, N.Y. on Sunday. The loss is the third straight for the Cobbers on their eastern road trip to start the 2007-08 season. The win is the first of the year for the Bengals who were playing in their first game of the season after playing five exhibition contests to start the year.

The game was a goaltender battle for the first two periods of play as CC freshman netminder Julie York stopped all 18 shots she faced and Buffalo State goalie Shannon Anesatti made all 15 saves. Neither team was able to score on the power play in the first two frames with the Cobbers going 0-for-4 in the first 40 minutes and the Bengals going 0-for-3. The highlight of the first two periods came when Concordia was awarded a penalty shot at the 14:48 mark after a Buffalo State player tripped a CC attacker on a breakaway.  Unfortunately for the Cobbers, Anesatti made the save on the ensuing penalty shot and kept the game deadlocked at 0-0.

The game finally picked up on the offensive end when the Bengals scored the first of their three goals in the period just 2:37 into the stanza. Junior Melissa Jeckovich recorded the first of her three goals on the afternoon to give Buffalo State the 1-0 lead. Jeckovich netted the eventual game-winner on the power play at 13:39 after Brit Vander Kooy was whistled for an interference call.

The Cobbers picked up their lone goal in the game less than 40 seconds later when Kacey Franklin scored her first collegiate goal on assists from Abby Callahan and Bre Bian at 14:13.

The scoring barrage continued less than one minute later. After Concordia called a timeout following their goal, the Bengals notched the final goal of the game at 14:51.

The Cobbers then elected to pull York for the remaining part of the game in order to gain the man-advantage situation but was never able to get to within two goals.

In the end, Buffalo State outshot Concordia 25-23. The Bengals were 1-for-5 on the power play, while CC went 0-for-6. In the three-game weekend, the Cobbers went 2-for-14 (.143) on the power play.

York finished the game with 22 saves and was handed her first collegiate loss. Anesatti stopped 22 of the 23 shots she faced to earn her first win of the season.

Concordia will return to Moorhead for their home opener next weekend. The Cobbers will host UW-Superior in a two-game series on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Sports Center.
