Gameday Game Recap:
ADRIAN, Mich. (11/02/07)-- Concordia gave up a pair of first-period goals in their season-opening game against Adrian (Mich.) on Friday and went on to lose 5-0. The Cobbers were never able to muster any offensive attack against the Bulldogs who are now 4-1 on the year. CC is now 3-5-1 in season-opening games in their nine-year history.
Adrian used their season experience to jump on the Cobbers right from the start of the game. The Bulldogs outshot CC 10-6 in the first period and netted the only two goals of the frame. Ainsley Coon got the eventual game-winner at the 7:54 mark and then Stacey Kempson added the first of her two goals in the game at 13:01.
The back-breaking goal for Concordia came less than a minute into the second period. After heading into the locker room to regroup after their first period of play in the season, the Cobbers allowed the third goal of the game at the 42-second mark when Kempson connected on her second goal. Ashley Aiken scored on the power play at 13:49 of the middle period and then Nicky Futers finished off the scoring with the only goal of the third period just 59 seconds into the frame.
For the game, Adrian outshot Concordia 48-15. The Cobbers were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Bulldogs went 1-for-4. CC took four penalties in the game as opposed to only three for Adrian.
Concordia goalie Amber Malcolm stopped 43 shots on the game. That total is the second highest of her career. She turned aside 49 shots in a game against Gustavus last season. Adrian netminder Dana Timm made 15 saves in the game to earn her second shutout in the past four games.
The two teams will square off on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. to finish the two-game series.
