Gameday Game Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- In the three games leading up to Concordia's regular season finale, the team has started like a Yugo trying to get up to speed in the Daytona 500. On Saturday against the Pipers, Cobber head coach Jessica Rahman popped the clutch on Concordia's NASCAR and bolted to a 14-0 lead en route to a 73-61 victory that served as a tune-up for the upcoming conference tournament.

The 12-point win marks the second straight game the Cobbers have posted a victory margin in double-digits. The win also secured the #2 seed for Concordia in the upcoming MIAC tournament. The Cobbers finished the regular season with a 16-4 mark in conference play, one game behind St. Ben's, who beat Gustavus on Saturday, and finished with a 17-3 record. Concordia will take a 19-6 record into the postseason ann need one win to earn their second 20-win season in the past three years.

By finishing second, the Cobbers earned a first round bye in the playoffs and will host the winner of Monday's Gustavus/Bethel first round game on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30pm. Since the game is an MIAC Championship event, admission prices will be charged. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students (with ID).

Concordia was led, fittingly enough, by lone senior Tori Ehlert. Honored before the game on Senior Day, Ehlert posted a season-high 16 points and added eight rebounds. She was one of four Cobber players to score in double figures. Junior Annie Keeley recorded the first double-double of her career. The 5-6 guard scored 13 points and hauled down 10 rebounds. She also had five assists and was only five helpers away from a triple-double.

Melanie Hageman scored 10 points from the free throw and finished with 12 total. She was 10-of-16 from the line and 1-of-4 from the floor. Reserve guard Jessica Heintz went 4-of-4 from 3-point range and finished with 12 points.

Hamline (13-12, 9-11 MIAC), who is locked into the fifth-seed and will play at Carleton on Monday, had only one player score more than eight points. Carolyn Korchick amassed a game-high 20 points as she went 5-of-10 from behind the arc.

Concordia held Hamline to only 38.8% (19-of-49) shooting from the field. The Cobbers were able to find the range from inside and were even better from behind the arc. Concordia shot 53.2% (25-of-47) from the field and 57.1% (8-of-14) from 3-point range.

The league's leading rebounding team, the Cobbers held a decisive 31-21 advantage on the glass. Concordia also outscored the Pipers 20-14 in points in the paint and had a 23-17 edge in points off of turnovers.

Concordia's semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30pm against the winner of the Gustavus/Bethel first round game can be seen live via the internet at:
