MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/24/08)-- Concordia women’s basketball head coach Jessica Rahman announced on Monday that she will step aside for the next six weeks in order to recover from surgery. Rahman will have surgery on Tuesday to remove a benign tumor in her stomach.

During her absence assistant coach Rachel Bergeson will assume the head coaching duties. Second assistant Steph Mayclin will also join the varsity coaching staff and former men’s and women’s head coach Duane Siverson will be added to the coaching staff during the six-week period.

Rahman is in her sixth season as head coach of the Cobbers. In her first five years she has fashioned a 95-38 overall record. She helped guide the team to the MIAC playoff championship title in 2005-06 and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Under her guidance the Cobbers have made the conference playoffs in five straight seasons and have won at least 15 conference games in all five seasons. Rahman has an impressive 80-26 record in MIAC play during her tenure.

Bergeson has been the team's top assistant for the past two seasons. She was hired as a full-time assistant before the 2006-07 campaign and took over for former assistant Mark Askerooth as the team's No.1 assistant before last season.
