Second Round - Saturday, Mar. 7 - 7 p.m. - Semifinal Winners MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/02/09)-- For the second time in the past four seasons Concordia will be participating in the NCAA Tournament. The Cobbers earned one of the 20 at-large bids into the national playoffs it was announced on Monday during the national selection show on the NCAA website. Concordia will play Concordia University (Wis.) at UW-Stevens Point in the first round of the tournament on Friday, Mar. 6 at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live in the F-M area on 740 AM and will also feature live stats which can be accessed through the Cobber athletics website. The Falcons earned their trip to the national playoffs by winning the Northern Athletic Conference (NAC) postseason championship. The Falcons were also the regular season champions in the northern half of the NAC. Concordia enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 22-5. They are making only their second trip to the NCAA Tournament. They lost 72-51 to Luther (Iowa) in the first round in their only other national playoff appearance back in 2007. The winner of the Concordia/Concordia (Wis.) game will meet the winner of the UW-Stevens Point/Maryville (Mo.) game on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 7 p.m. at UW-Stevens Pt. The Cobbers are 19-8 on the year and will be making their 16th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Concordia last participated in the national playoffs in 2006 when the won the MIAC Tournament championship and then fell to UW-Stout in the first round of the national playoffs. CC is 20-15 overall in previous NCAA appearances. The Cobbers won the NCAA national Championship in 1988 and were the national runners-up in 1987. Current Concordia head coach Jessica Rahman was a member of both those Final Four teams. The Cobbers are led by senior Jenna Freudenberg. Freudenberg had a break out year in 2008-09 as the team's leader. She led the team in scoring with a 16.7 points per game average. She scored in double figures in all but one game this season. Freudenberg finished the year tied for second in the MIAC in scoring in conference games and was third in the league in assists. She had a career-high 34 points against MIAC champion St. Ben's on Feb. 7. The 34 points was the second-highest single game scoring total in program history. Freudenberg was named the MIAC Player of the Week on two different occasions during the 2008-09 season. Concordia (Wis.) is led by 5-9 senior forward Krista Mayyou who averaged 16.7 points per game in all games and 18.4 points in conference games. She led the team in scoring in 14 of their 27 games and had a season-high 36 points at Edgewood on Nov. 29. She has led the team in scoring the past three seasons and has scored over 1200 points in her career.
