(1/14/08)-- Concordia senior post player Melanie Hageman was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week it was announced on Tuesday. Hageman averaged 20.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in helping Concordia post an unblemished 3-0 conference record last week. Hageman led the Cobbers to wins over Hamline, Gustavus and Bethel -- all three of which entered their games with the Cobbers in the top half of the MIAC. For Hageman it is the first time this season she has earned the conference weekly award and third time in her career. Hageman, who led the Cobbers in scoring in all three games, shot 58.8% (20-for-34) from the field and 91.6% (22-for-24) from the free throw line during the week. In Concordia's 78-70 win over Hamline, Hageman had 23 points, collected four rebounds and was 7-for-10 from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the line. Against Gustavus in the team's 64-60 win she scored 14 points, had eight rebounds and was 3-for-6 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the line. In Saturday's 92-72 win over Bethel, she had 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds and was 10-for-18 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. With her 62 total points on the week, Hageman moved into fifth place on the school's all-time scoring list. She now has 1,376 points and moved past current St. Mary's head coach Mandy Peterson. For the season Hageman leads the MIAC in scoring in conference games. She is averaging 19.0 points per game in the team's eight conference games this season. She is also 10th in the MIAC in rebounding (6.7 rpg), eighth in field goal percentage (50.6%) and eighth in free throw percenatge (83.3%).
