MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/16/09)-- Concordia will host the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5:45 p.m. when they play St. Mary's. The game is part of the national "Pink Zone" campaign to raise awareness and money for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund is named in honor of former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow who died of cancer in January. She was also a founding member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and a galvanizing voice for the Association.

Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away from the disease January 24, 2009. In her 38-years as a head coach at the college-level, Yow
was one of only six Division I head women’s basketball mentors to achieve 700 career victories. She was an Olympic Gold Medal head coach in 1988.

Her fund is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

Last year Concordia raised over $300.00 for cancer research during their "Think Pink" game.

This year fans will be able to purchase commemorative t-shirts, donate to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and sign up for prizes to be given out throughout the contest.
