D3hoops.com All-West Region Award Winners

STERLING, Va. -- Concordia standout sophomore Melanie Hageman (So., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) was named to the All-West Region Second Team as announced by D3hoops.com on Tuesday.

The award is the first regional honor for Hageman and follows her All-Conference award announced earlier in the week.

Players were nominated by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted several times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. A total of 599 players were nominated nationwide.

The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players and the top vote-getters at each position were named to the All-Region team.

"We are thankful to the Sports Information Directors across Division III who took the time to nominate and vote to provide broader recognition to these worthy student-athletes," said D3hoops.com publisher Pat Coleman. "Their continued help and participation is integral to the All-Region team and everything else we do."

Hageman helped Concordia record 21 wins during the year and capture the MIAC Tournament Championship for the first time in the six-year history of the event. She also helped the Cobbers earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament - their 15th overall appearance and first since 1996.

Hageman has become one of the most dangerous scoring threats in the region. Her ability to turn in the post and low block area helped the Cobbers record their second 21-win season in the past three years.

She led the Cobbers in scoring with a 16.3 points per game average in overall games. She averaged 17.6 points in the team's 20 league games. She finished 16th in the nation in field goal percentage, connecting on 59.1% of her attempts from the field. She led the MIAC in that statistical category. She was also third in the league in scoring, fourth in rebounding (7.6 rebounds per game) and fourth in free throw percentage (80.6%).

Hageman scored in double figures in 18 of the team's 20 conference games and put up 20-plus points on five occasions. She recorded six double-doubles during conference play. She also scored a career-high 31 points against Bethel on Feb. 11.
