(2/17/07)-- Concordia led by 13 at halftime, pushed it to as many as 19 points in the second half and then hung on to beat St. Mary's 70-64 in Winona in the final game of the 2006-07 regular season. The win helps the Cobbers clinch the No.3 seed for the MIAC tournament and will give CC a home game against No.6 St. Kate's on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the conference playoffs. It will be the third straight season that Concordia has earned one of the top three seeds for the MIAC playoffs. Concordia also wins for the second straight game. The Cobbers finish the regular season 17-8 overall and 15-7 in the MIAC. CC led wire-to-wire to post the series sweep over St. Mary's (7-18/5-17 MIAC). Annie Keeley started and finished the game in scoring. She opened the game with a 3-point basket, which started the Cobbers on a 7-1 run to start the game. After the Cardinals went on a 7-1 run of their own to tie the game at 8-8. CC responded on a decisive 15-4 run to take a 23-12 lead and seize control of the game. Concordia stretched it to 13 points at the break, leading 40-37, and then pushed it all the way to 19 points at 46-27 with 17:06 remaining. The Cardinals slowly whittled away at the lead and came within four in the final minute of play but a pair of Keeley free throws sealed the game and made her bookend scoring plays complete. Keeley was one of three Concordia players to finish in double figures. Keeley had 12 points and was outdone by backcourt mate Jenna Freudenberg who knocked down a pair of 3-point field goals and finished with 14 points. She also had six assists and did not commit a single turnover. Melanie Hageman led all scorers with 18 points. She also added four rebounds and two blocks. Like the Cobbers, SMU also had three players score at least 10 points. Nichole Hanson went 5-of-7 from behind the arc and finished with a team-high 15 points. Jessica Weisbrod recorded a game-high eight rebounds and added 14 points and Kelly Tanke came off the bench to score an even 10 points. Team wise, Concordia shot 43.9% (25-of-57) from the field and 41.7% (5-of-12) from 3-point range. The Cobbers were also 15-of-20 (75.0%) from the free throw line. St. Mary's connected on 40.7% (22-of-54) of their field goal attempts and 35.7% (5-of-14) from outside the arc. SMU was a torrid 15-of-16 (93.8%) from the foul line. The main statistical advantage for the Cobbers came from their transition game where CC turned the Cardinals' 14 turnovers into a 26-4 edge in points off of turnovers.
