Game Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/31/07)-- Concordia led wire-to-wire against Macalester and came away with a 73-52 victory over the Scots in Moorhead on Wednesday.

The win helps erase the memory of the last time the two teams met when the upstart Scots upset the Cobbers 57-52 in St. Paul at the beginning of January.

Concordia built up a 13-5 lead in the first five minutes and then held Macalester at bay throughout the remaining 35 minutes. The Scots got as close as four points at 24-20 with 6:00 remaining in the first half, but then a 10-0 run at the end of the first period put the game out of reach and gave CC a comfortable lead throughout the entire second half.

Annie Keeley led the way for the Cobbers. She finished with a game-high 20 points and went 4-of-6 from 3-point range. She now needs just six 3-point baskets to break the school record for 3-point field goals in a career.

Melanie Hageman and Jenna Freudenberg were the only other two Cobber players that scored more than seven points in the game. Hageman finished with 16 points to go along with four rebounds. Freudenberg put up 14 points to go along with a game-high four assists.

Sophomore guard Ashley King came off the bench to score seven points and haul down a team-high eight rebounds.

The Scots had a pair of players in double figures for the game. Trina PaStarr posted a team-high 15 points and Danielle Johnson had 11. PaStarr also had a game-high 10 rebounds to record her third double-double in the past five games.

The Cobber dominance was felt more around the basket as Concordia outscored Macalester 36-18 in points in the paint. CC also held a 38-35 edge in rebounding.

For the game, the Cobbers shot 44.6% (29-of-65) from the floor and 38.5% (5-of-13) from 3-point range. Macalester was held to only 34.0% (18-of-53) from the floor and 33.3% (2-of-6) from behind the arc. The six 3-point field goal attempts ties for the fewest attempted by a Cobber opponent all season long.

Concordia will now take to the road for three of their next four games. The Cobbers will play at Hamline on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. The game can be heard live on the internet via the Cobber website and will have live video streaming courtesy of the Hamline athletics website.
