Game Recap MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/17/07)-- Concordia has started a trend in the past two games of their five-game winning streak. Jump out of the gates quickly, take a huge lead at the start of the second half and then coast to the conference victory. That itinerary played out once again in the Cobbers' 64-42 win at home over St. Mary's on Wednesday. Against Augsburg on Monday, Concordia bolted to a 20-1 lead and then jumped out to a 25-point lead in the first part of the second half before finally beating the Auggies. 79-56. Against the Cardinals on Wednesday, CC started on a 14-2 run, built the lead to 22 points at 49-27 just after the break and downshifted their way to the 22-point win. The victory extends the Cobbers' win streak to five games - the longest of the season - and improves their overall record to 10-4 and MIAC mark to 8-3. The 10 total wins marks the 32nd straight season that Concordia has produced a double-digit win total. St. Mary's continues to struggle on the road. They are now 2-9 in the MIAC and 4-10 overall. Away from Winona, the Cardinals are now 0-5. Concordia also extended their unbeaten streak whenever they shoot at least 35.0% from the field. CC is now 10-0 on the year when they connect on at least 35.0% of their field goal attmepts. Against St. Mary's, the Cobbers shot 39.7% (25-of-63) from the floor and 35.7% (5-of-14) from 3-point range. The Cobber defense turned up the pressure and keyed the victory. CC held SMU to only 29.5% (13-of-44) from the field and 20.0% (3-of-15) from behind the arc. Concordia also forced the Cardinals into committing 21 turnovers. CC turned those 21 miscues into an 18-2 advantage in points off of turnovers. Three guards scored in double figures for Concordia. Annie Keeley led all scoers with 14 points. She went 2-of-4 from 3-point range and needs only 15 more 3-point field goals to break the school record for 3-point baskets made in a career. Freshman Sara Sorbo was a terror on both ends of the court. The 5-8 dynamo dove for loose balls all night long and finished with 11 points and a game-high six steals. It is the fourth time in the past five games that she has led the team in steals. Jenna Freudenberg added 10 points for CC and has now scored in double figures in three of the team's past four games. Junior post player Melanie Hageman was limited to a season-low five points and now needs 52 more points to reach the 1,000 point milestone for her career. St. Mary's was led by Nichole Hanson who came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points. Jessica Weisbrod was the only other SMU player to score more than six points in the game. She added 10 points. Kelly Tanke had a game-high six rebounds. Concordia will now enter the most telling two-game stint of the season.
