Game Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/06/07)-- For the second straight game, Concordia suffered from a cold shooting touch and lost in the final minutes of play. On Wednesday, the Cobbers lost to Macalester in overtime and on Saturday, Concordia got close to Hamline in the final minutes but were never able to grab a lead and lost 67-60.

The Cobbers shot 31.1% (19-of-61) from the field for the game and a scant 17.1% (5-of-29) from 3-point range as they lost for the second straight game. CC is now 3-3 in the MIAC and 5-4 overall. Hamline contained the Cobber offense for the entire game and won for the third straight game and the fifth time in the past six games. The Pipers are now 5-2 in the MIAC and 7-3 overall.

Concordia junior post player Melanie Hageman led all players with 27 points. She went 8-of-9 from the floor and 11-of-15 from the free throw line to post her season high in points. Hageman also hauled in a team-high nine rebounds. Hageman was the only Concordia player to score more than eight points. Annie Keeley, who entered the game as the team leader in scoring, was held to only six points.

Hamline had four players in double figures for the game. Rochelle Sather was hot from the field the entire game. She went 7-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-4 from 3-point range to finished with 22 points. Krystal Tschumperlin added 15 points, while reserve guard Grace Weinreich had 11 points and Shelby Hyllengren came away with 10 points.

The difference in the game was the outside shooting touch of the Pipers. While the Cobbers were unable to hit from behind the arc, Hamline shot 50.0% (8-of-16) from the 3-point range.

Concordia outrebounded Hamline 3630 for the game and also turned the ball over fewer times (24-20) than the Pipers but were never able to overcome their inconsistent shooting ability.

The Cobbers will look to get back on track when they host Gustavus on Monday, Jan. 8 at 7:45 p.m. The game can be seen and heard live via the Cobber athletics website and will also feature live statistics.
