Game Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/04/06)-- Concordia turned to its defense to help break its two-game losing streak as the Cobbers came away with a 63-42 win at St.  Olaf on Monday.

Concordia held the Oles to only 22.4% (11-of-49) shooting from the field for the entire game. The win is the first conference victory for the Cobbers who move to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. St. Olaf remains in search for their first win of the season. The Oles are now 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC.

Melanie Hageman was the big force for the Cobbers throughout the game. She finished with a game-high 18 points and had eight rebounds. Annie Keeley added 15 points and now has 990 for her career. She needs only 10 more points to become the 20th player in program history to break the 1,000-point barrier. Jessica Heintz broke out of an early-season shooting slump and had a season-high 11 points. She was 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Head Coach Jessica Rahman was able to play all 14 players on the Cobbers roster. Nine different Concordia players had at least one point in the game.

The key part of the game came midway through the first half. St. Olaf went on a 10-5 run to cut the Cobbers' lead to three. But then Concordia responded by answering with a 16-7 streak of their own over the final eight minutes in the first half to grab control of the game and diminish any hope the Oles had of pulling out their first win of the season.

The first 12:06 of the second half also proved fatal for St. Olaf as Concordia limited the Oles to only one field goal during that entire stretch. After taking a 34-20 lead into the break, the Cobbers extended it to 27 points at 49-22 with 11:51 to play before St. Olaf was able to whittle it down to 13 points with less than five minutes to go in the game.

The Cobbers were most productive in the first half. They shot 40.6% (13-of-32) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes but then cooled off and shot only 34.6% (9-of-26) in the second half. For the game, CC shot 37/9% (22-of-58) from the floor and 28.6% (6-of-21) from 3-point range. It is the third straight game that the Cobbers have failed to shoot more than 32.0% from behind the arc.

Concordia outrebounded St. Olaf 50-38 for the game. That edge also translated into an 11-5 edge in second chance points. CC forced St. Olaf into 21 turnovers. The Cobbers only made 20 turnovers in the game marking the first time all season Concordia has committed fewer turnovers than their opponent in a game.

Concordia will play at St. Catherine on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. The Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the league this season as they are unbeaten at 5-0.
