Game Rewind: Game Stats: Final Stats vs. St. Ben's - now online! Game Recap: ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (11/29/06)-- It was a hole they could never climb out of. The Cobbers dug a sky scraper-like foundation in the first half against St. Ben's and lost 72-54 in the conference opening game for both schools on Wednesday. The cold hard facts of the opening 20 minutes show that the Cobbers shot a frigid 217.7% (5-of-23) from the floor and did not hit a 3-point basket the entire half (0-for-6). Concordia scored only 14 points and turned the ball over 15 times in the first 20 minutes. CC scored the opening points in the game and then watched as the Blazer offense went on a 32-4 run in the first 16 minutes of play. If there was a silver lining to the thunderstorm cloud that hung over the heads of the Cobbers as they left St. Joseph it was the fact that they outscored St. Ben's 40-32 in the final 20 minutes of play. Concordia scored 40 points, collected 24 rebounds and only turned the ball over nine times in the second half of the game. Freshman guard Sara Sorbo led Concordia with 12 points and senior forward Sarah Krabbenhoft chipped in 11 points as the pair was the only two Concordia players in double figures. Annie Keeley and Melanie Hageman who were averaging a combined 40.0 points coming into the game, were held to only 11 total points. As a team, Concordia ended up shooting 32.7% (17-of-52) from the field and 20.0% (3-of-15 from 3-point range). The Cobbers turned the ball over 24 times in the game. The one statistical edge Concordia did enjoy was a 38-25 advantage in rebounds. St. Ben's shot 45.2% (14-of-31) from the field in the first half but also fired at a 60.0% (6-of-10) clip from behind the arc. With their work done for the game, the Blazers finished by shooting 41.1% (23-of-56) from the floor and 40.0% (8-of-20) from 3-point range. The Blazers were led by Katie Kempe who poured in six 3-point field goals and finished with a game-high 18 points. Concordia will hope to erase the memory of the first half when they get back in action on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. at Valley City State.
