Game Recap:

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (11/17/06)-- Concordia used a hot shooting hand from the outside to cruise past Southern Virginia 70-47 in the opening game of the Great Ships Tipoff Tournament hosted by The Apprentice School in Newport News, Va. on Friday. The Cobbers will now play NAIA nationally-ranked Notre Dame College in the championship game on Saturday.

Concordia was led by the outside-inside tandem of Annie Keeley and Melanie Hageman. Keeley sparked the Cobbers' outside shooting touch by knocking down 5-of-6 shots from 3-point range and finished with a game-high 18 points. As a team, Concordia went 9-of-17 (52.9%) from beyond the arc. Hageman finished with 15 points and hauled down eight rebounds.

The Cobbers had 11 players score at least two points in the game and five different players connected on shots from 3-point range.

Concordia looked like the team that had already played two games instead of the Knights, as they continually hit shots from behind the 3-point arc in the first half on their way to building a 34-17 halftime lead. In the first 20 minutes, the Cobbers went 7-of-11 from 3-point range and 13-of-26 from the field. After Southern Virginia hit a basket at 14:43 of the opening period, the Cobbers went on a 14-0 run and never trailed again in the game.

CC closed out the first half by scoring 12 of the final 14 points in the final four minutes to take a 17-point lead into the break.

The second period was a closer battle as the Knights started to hit their shots, but the uphill battle proved to be too much as Concordia outscored Southern Virginia 36-30 in the final half of play.

For the game, Concordia shot 52.9% from 3-point range and 48.1% (25-of-52) from the floor. The Cobbers were dominant on the boards as well, outrebounding the Knights 46-26. Concordia had almost as many offensive rebounds (12) as Southern Virginia had defensive rebounds (19). The one negative on the night was the fact that Concordia committed 23 turnovers, including 13 in the second half.

Besides Keeley and Hageman, Sarah Krabbenhoft came off  the bench to collect a team-high nine rebounds and add seven points.

The Cobbers will play Notre Dame College in the championship game of the Great Ships Tipoff Tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m. (est). The Falcons are currently ranked 17th in NAIA Division II and beat host The Apprentice School on Friday 67-55.
