D3hoops.com All-West Region Award Winners

STERLING, Va. -- Melanie Hageman (Jr., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) was named to the All-West Region Second Team for the second consecutive season it was announced by D3hoops.com on Wednesday.

The award is her second postseason honor of the year. She received MIAC All-Conference honors two weeks ago. She has now been named to two straight MIAC All-Conference First Teams and a pair of D3hoops.com All-West Region Teams.

Players were nominated by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted several times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. A total of 638 players were nominated nationwide.

The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players and the top vote-getters at each position were named to the All-Region team.

"We are thankful to the Sports Information Directors across Division III who took the time to nominate and vote to provide broader recognition to these worthy student-athletes," said D3hoops.com publisher Pat Coleman. "Their continued help and participation is integral to the All-Region team and everything else we do."

Hageman once again played a key figure in the Cobbers' return to the MIAC playoffs and another 15-plus win season.

She led the team in scoring for the second straight season and surpassed the 1000-point mark during the season. She ended the year by averaging 17.7 points per game. That is her highest season average for her three years at CC. She scored 478 points during the season and now has 1,185 for her career, which places her 12th on the school's all-time scoring list.

Hageman scored at least 20 points on 11 different occasions during the season and had a season-high 30 points against Bethel on January 10. She also collected six double-doubles during the season for scoring at least 10 points and grabbing at least 10 rebounds. She had a season-high 13 rebounds twice during the year.

She finished 10th in the nation in field goal percentage, averaging 58.3% from the floor in the team's 27 games. She was also 52nd in the country in points per game and 66th in free throw percentage (81.8%).
