MSU Moorhead Dual Meet Results - Now Online!

MOORHEAD, Minn.-- Concordia claimed the final three events of the meet against cross-town rival MSU-Moorhead but it wasn't enough to overcome the Dragons as the Cobbers fell 139-102 in a dual meet held in the Memorial Auditorium Pool on the campus of Concordia College.

Concordia held a 7-6 edge in event wins but was overcome by the depth of the MSU-Moorhead team. The Dragons routinely placed three swimmers and divers in the top four of each event which helped them pick up the 37-point victory.

Once again the story for Concordia was the diving of senior Annie Cullen. Cullen won the second portion of the 1-meter diving competition. Her winning total of 204.40 provisionally qualified her for the national meet. It is her second provisionally qualifying score this season and she is now eligible to be selected to participate in the NCAA Division III national Meet held at the University of Minnesota on March 9-11. Cullen previously qualified during the Cobbers' dual meet at Gustavus held on November 19.

Shannon Brown and Katie Lee led the Cobber swimming attack. Each athlete posted victories in two different events. Brown won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.27 and then turned around and won the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:43.18. Lee turned the double in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. Lee posted a time of 2:28.25 in the 200 IM which was five seconds faster than the second place finisher. She then won the 100-yard butterfly two events later in a time of 1:08.05, which narrowly defeated Courtney Johnson of MSU-M who swam a 1:08.53.

Besides Brown and Lee, Shaina Fossum also recorded an event win. Fossum, the Cobbers' premier distance freestyler, swam a 20:18.02 to win the 1650-yard freestyle.

The final event win for the Cobbers came in the final event of the meet where the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lee, Jenna Dillon, Fossum and Brown swam a 4:04.17 to win by over three full seconds.

The highlight of the meet for the Dragons came in the 400-yard freestyle relay where the team of  Lynne Sieske, Krystle Ross, Jenna Nace, Crysta Johnson, swimming as an exhibition team, broke the pool record with a time of 3:49.81.

Concordia will now have a five-week break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on January 14 when they swim a dual meet at St. Ben's at 1:00pm.
