MIAC Meet Day 2 Recap

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- A Concordia senior looking to cap off her outstanding career and a freshman just starting off her championship meet experience stole the show for the Cobbers on the second day at the MIAC Championship Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Shannon Brown finally earned all-conference honors after spending three years training to win the award. Shaina Fossum made the loudest splash in the second day by breaking the school record in the 400-yard individual medley during the preliminary heat in the afternoon session.

Fossum's time of 5:01.49 broke Elizabeth Dougherty's 2003 mark by more than .50 seconds. She later bettered that mark in the finals during the evening session. Fossum swam a 5:01.30 to finish 16th.

Brown earned her all-conference honor in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was the final swimmer to earn a spot in the finals by swimming a 1:10.17 in the preliminaries to capture the eighth, and final, spot in the championship heat by .37.

Brown then posted a time of 1:11.39 in the finals to finish eighth.

As a team, Concordia is in eighth place after the second day. The Cobbers have 67 total points and lead St. Kate's by six points.

Concordia will finish off the MIAC Championship Meet on Saturday at the U of M Aquatic Center.
