Julie Lucier is in her ninth year as head coach of the Concordia women’s swimming and diving program. She is a 1992 graduate of Concordia and was named the head swimming and diving coach at the college in June of 1999.

Since taking over in 1999, Lucier has driven the swimming and diving program to new heights in talent, level of competition and quantity of swimming and diving athletes. She has coached a trio of All-American performers and in 2006 she had her first swimming and diving national champion. She has also coached numerous All-MIAC athletes.

During the 2005-06 season, Annie Cullen ('06, Moorhead, Minn.) became the first Cobber swimming and diving athlete to win an NCAA Division III National Championship. She won the top honor in the 1-meter diving competition. She was also the first Concordia swimming and diving athlete to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors.

In 2005, Emily Hall (Minot, N.D.) became the second Concordia athlete to achieve All-American honors under the guidance of Lucier. In March of 2001 she guided Shana Letnes to a pair of All-American awards. All of the current school records have been set during Lucier’s tenure as coach.

Originally from Litchfield, Minn., Lucier served as the head girls’ swimming coach at Marshall (Minn.) High School from 1994-1999. She also taught mathematics in the Marshall school system from 1993 to 1999. From 1992-1993 she was a math and computer teacher in the Climax (MN) school system. Lucier served as a coach for the Moorhead Marlins Swim Club (1991-1992) while she was attending Concordia College.

She is a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association and the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. She is also the chairperson of the MIAC swimming and diving Coaches.

Julie lives in Moorhead with her husband, Scott, and two children Tyson and Jordyn.
