(1/17/09)-- Concordia sent their seven seniors out in style on Saturday as they edged St. Kate's 157-141 in a dual meet in Moorhead. The Cobbers won only six of the 16 events but placed first and third in the final relay of the meet and came away with their third dual meet of the season. CC finishes the dual-meet portion of their schedule with a 3-3 record. They finished by winning three of their final four dual meets. Concordia has now downed the Wildcats in five consecutive seasons. The meet was the annual Senior Recognition and Parent's Reception Meet. The Cobbers made sure all their fans were on the edge of their seats for the entire meet. Concordia was led by Shaina Fossum - one of the seven seniors that were competing in the CC pool for the final time of their careers. Fossum set the tone for CC in the first individual event of the meet. After losing the 200-yard medley relay, Fossum swam a 11:36.55 in the 1000-yard freestyle and won the event by over 16 seconds. A pair of Concordia sophomores, a freshman and a junior diver accounted for the other individual event victories. Afer Fossum's win in the 1000, sophomore Aleina Weiz won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:06.03. Two events later freshman Lindsay Mitlyng swam a 2:29.71 to win the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Katie Coleman kept her winning streak alive by posting a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:35.90. It is the fourth consecutive dual meet that Coleman has won at least one event. Junior diver Lauren Trudeau added to her season win total when she earned the victory in the first 1-meter diving event. She has now won at least won diving event in all six of the Cobbers' dual meets this season. The meet stayed close until the 16th, and final, event of the day. That is when the Cobbers earned and first and third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Kirsten Anderson, Coleman, Kristina Westmark and Kendal Christensen won the event with a time of 1:46.64. Concordia's "B" relay quartet of Fossum, Stacie Fossum, Adva Aharonovich and Amanda Rolik came through with a time of 1:52.25 to claim the valuable third -place points. Concordia will compete in the St. Kate's Invite on Saturday, Jan. 24 starting at 8:30 a.m. |
