Meet Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/05/08)-- Concordia was hoping that 2008 would start as nice as 2007 finished. The Cobbers ended the old year with a perfect record of 4-0 in dual meets and were looking to extend their school record start to five when they hosted St. Thomas on Saturday. Unfortunately for CC, they ran into a Tommie squad that had spent the Christmas holiday training in Florida and lost 138-107.

It is the first dual-meet loss of the season for the Cobbers and drops their record to 4-1. St. Thomas evens their dual-meet record for the year at 2-2.

Not only did UST claim the win on Saturday they also swam away with five pool records. The record-setting times came in the 400-yard medley relay (Jena Root, Jill Otterson, Ali Krieger, Becca Ney - 4:10.16), 100-yard backstroke (split in the relay - Jena Root 1:00.24),
100-yard freestyle (Becca Ney - 55.36), 200-yard backstroke (Jena Root - 2:14.72) and 200-yard individual medley (Becca Ney - 2:16.78).

Of the nine events that were scored, St. Thomas placed 1-2 in eight. The top Cobber finisher for the day was freshman Whitney Walters who swam a 27.19 in the 50-yard freestyle and finished second.

Concordia had a trio of third-place finishes in the opening nine races. Rachael Hagen posted a time of 2:15.36 in the 200-yard freestyle, Aleina Weisz swam a 1:20.62 in the 100-yard breaststroke and Mackenzie Koeck recorded a time of 2:46.61 in the 200-yard butterfly.

The Cobbers will continue to get in race shape after taking almost a month off away from competitive meets when they compete at St. Ben's on Friday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.
