Meet Recap:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/18/06)-- Concordia competed in its first big team meet on Saturday and came away with a fourth-place finish at the eight-team Macalester Invitational. The Cobbers finished with a final team score of 265 points which was 59 points higher than what they were seeded going into the meet.  The entire field was made up of MIAC opponents and will help the Cobbers gauge where they currently stand when it comes to conference competition.

During the meet, Concordia had 11 athletes post career-best scores and finished with season-best marks. The Cobbers were led by freshman diver Lauren Trudeau who recorded a pair of top four finishes in her first invitational against fellow MIAC divers. Trudeau finished second in the 3-meter competition with a career-best score of 190.35. She also placed fourth in the 1-meter event with a final total of 161.95.

Two other Cobber athletes recorded top three finishes at the meet. Erin Maetzold continued her successful freshman season. She posted a second-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley and a third-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly. Maetzold was only two seconds off the winning time in the individual medley and 2.13 behind the winner of the butterfly. Senior Katie Lee finished third in the 800-meter freestyle in a time of 10:44.18.

The two Cobber relay teams both finished fourth. The 200-meter medley relay team of Maetzold, Karin Koenig, Dani Ree and Chelsea Volna opened the meet by finishing in a time of 2:15.78 which was less than .50 second behind third-place finisher Hamline.

Lee teamed with Shaina Fossum, Jessica Tollberg and Rachael Hagen to finish the meet with a time of 4:27.86 in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Other swimmers posting career-best times included Kelly Kufahl (50-meter freestyle - 31.65 and 100-meter freestyle -1:11.54), Sarah Jesperson (100-meter freestyle - 1:06.75), Fossum (200-meter butterfly - 2:33.46), Volna (200-meter IM - 2:29.09), Jessi Rognlien (100-meter backstroke - 1:14.13), Megan Reinke (100-meter backstroke - 1:10.86) and Amanda Rolik (100-meter butterfly - 1:17.02)

Concordia will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and then return to action on Dec. 1-2 when they take part in the Dragon/Cobber Open on the campus of MSU Moorhead.
