ADRIAN, Mich. (11/28/09)-- Concordia gave up a pair of goals in the first six minutes of their game against No.5-ranked Adrian and then traded a pair of goals in the final 54 minutes and lost 3-1 in Adrian, Mich. on Saturday in the final game of Hackett Builders Thanksgiving Tournament.

The loss was the second of the weekend for Concordia and drops their overall record to 2-7-2. The Bulldogs remain unbeaten on the season and move to 8-0-0. Adrian beat St. John's 6-2 on Friday.

The story of the game for the Cobbers was freshman goalie Jacob Vatnsdal who turned aside a career-high 46 shots. At one point in the game he made 29 consecutive saves before Adrian was finally able to get their insurance goal at 4:54 of the final frame.

After the Bulldogs fired their opening two-goal salvo with tallies at 2:03 and 5:09, the Cobbers were able to pull within one goal when Brian Kang scored his third goal of the season midway through the period at 10:23. Ben Payne was credited with the assist on the even strength score.

The game would stay at 2-1 in favor of the Bulldogs until the final period. During the back end of the first, all the way through the second and into the start of the third period neither team was able to scored despite putting up 35 shots and having four power play chances.

Adrian's scored their third goal at the 4:54 mark of the final period. In the final 15 minutes of play Concordia had a pair of power play opportunities but were only able to get five shots on goal and fell by two.

The Bulldogs outshot the Cobbers 49-19 in the game. Neither team scored on the power play. Concordia was 0-for-3 in the game and Adrian went scoreless in their four attempts.

Vatnsdal's 46 saves are the most by a Cobber goalie since Mike Persson had 55 against Gustavus on Feb. 22, 2008. Adrian goalie Brad Fogal had 18 stops to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Concordia returns to MIAC action next weekend when they host Bethel in a two-game series on Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Sports Center.
