Gameday Game Recap:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/16/09)-- It's starting to become a reoccurring theme with the Cobber men's hockey team. Concordia goes back and forth with the best teams in the MIAC but in the end falls by the narrowest of margins. On Friday in St. Paul, the Cobbers gave up the game-winning goal at the beginning of third period to Bethel and could never come up with the game-winning goal despite a lopsided shots on goal advantage. In the end, CC lost 2-1 and fell for the fifth time in their seven conference games. Concordia is now 2-12-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the conference. The Royals are now 7-7-1 in all games and 4-4-0 in league play.

The game was split into two parts with Bethel holding an advantage in the first period and then giving way to the Cobbers in the second and third frames. The Royals outshot the Cobbers 17-8 in the first period but then managed only nine shots in the final 40 minutes. CC had only eight shots in the first 20 minutes but then held a 32-9 advantage in the final 40 minutes. Unfortunately for Concordia they were only able to come up with one goal in their 32 shots in the final two periods and that was matched by BU who also scored one goal in only nine shots.

Bethel scored the only goal of the first two periods midway through the first 10 minutes. Eric Adams scored his sixth goal of the year, and first of his two in the game, to give BU a 1-0 lead at 10:01. That lead would hold up until the third period. Concordia finally got on the board when junior Knut Bitustoeyl scored at 1:22. His third goal of the year was assisted by Nick Thielen and Ben Nelson. For Thielen and Nelson it was their first collegiate point with the Cobbers since joining the team after the Christmas break.

The tie game would last ony 4:18. That's when Adams scored his second goal to give the Royals the 2-1 lead - a lead that would hold up for the final 14:20 of the game.

Concordia wound up outshooting Bethel 40-26 for the game. Cobber goalie Ole Bronbo made 24 saves in his first collegiate start. Bronbo wasn't even on the depth chart at the start of the season but because of injuries and unforeseen circumstances Bronbo got the start and made the most of it by keeping CC in the game for the entire 60 minutes. Royal goalie Aaron Damjanovich stopped 39 of the 40 shots she faced and picked up his seventh win of the year.

The two teams will finish off their series on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.
