Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/07/09)-- Concordia opened the 2009 calendar year by falling to UW-River Falls 3-0 in Moorhead on Wednesday. The Cobbers had several chances from in close but were stymied by a red-hot Falcon goalie and lost for the third straight game. Concordia is now 1-11-2 overall while UW-River Falls wins for the fourth straight game and evens their overall mark at 7-7-1.

The game was a very clean affair with only seven total penalties in the game and a combined total of four power play opportunities. The Cobbers were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Falcons failed to score in their only man-advantage attempt.

The game-winning goal came on River Falls' very first shot on goal in the game. Derek Hansberry scored his ninth goal of the year at 6:21 of the first period. It would be the first of two in the game for Hansberry. For the opening goal he merely had to tap in a centering pass from Ben Beaudoin to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Grant Everett was credited with the second assist on the play. The trio would combine on River Falls' second goal of the game. Hansberg struck again at 7:09 with Everett and Beaudoin getting their second assists of the night on the goal. That margin would last until the final 1:08 of the third period when Everett knocked home an empty-net goal at 18:52. For Everett it was his second goal of the year.

The Cobbers had several quality chances throughout the game but each time were thwarted by freshman goalie Bo Storozuk who made 22 saves to earn his first collegiate shutout. Concordia goalie Mike Persson stopped 27 shots in the losing effort.

CC will finish off their non-conference schedule for the year when they play at UW-Stout on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7:05 p.m.
