Gameday Game Recap:

WINONA, Minn. (11/21/08)-- After three periods of play on Friday night in Winona, Concordia and St. Mary's appeared to be identical Siamese twins joined at the hip. However, in overtime the Cardinals cut the connection and left the Cobbers still snake bit on the season. The 6-5 extra-period decision left CC winless on the year at 0-7-0 and 0-3-0 in league play. Concordia has now gone 18 straight games without a victory in a streak that dates back to Jan. 18 of last season.

Both teams entered the game with identical 0-6-0 overall marks and 0-2-0 record in MIAC play and both teams were under the tutelage of first-year head coaches. The similarities continued through three periods on Friday as each team scored a single goal in the first period, broke out for the in the second and then added one more in the third. St. Mary's (1-6-0/1-2-0 MIAC) then scored the game-breaker at 1:45 of overtime when Andy Roberts picked an opportune time to score his first goal of the season to hand SMU the win.

Like their loss at Lake Forest earlier in the year, Concordia held a decided edge in shots in goal but still came out on the losing end of the score sheet. The Cobbers outshot St. Mary's 49-29 but couldn't crack the tough goaltending skills of SMU goalie Scott Pederson. CC outshot the Cardinals 17-6 in the first period and 17-7 in the second period but found themselves tied at 4-4 heading into the third frame.

Five different Concordia players scored in the game. Senior Alec Holen had a goal and an assist to lead the Cobber offensive attack. Ryan Clukey, Shawn Goos, Marc Harrie and Michael Weiss also netted goals in the game. For Weiss it was his team-leading fourth goal of the year. Harrie connected on a short-handed goal in the six-goal second period to record his first collegiate score.

Cobber goalie Elliot Okland stopped 23 shots and Pederson turned aside 44 shots in net for SMU. Concordia was 3-for-10 on the power play while the Cardinals scored twice on their seven power play attempts.

The two teams will finish off their series on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2:05 at the St. Mary's Ice Rink in Winona.
