Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/14/08)-- As the first four games have failed to provide a win for the Cobbers, the tough times continue as they host the defending MIAC champion Hamline Pipers. After the first period of action, the Cobbers found themselves behind by three due to goals scored by Andrew Birkholz, Ryan Kupperman, and Cole Scattarelli respectively. Only putting six shots on net during the first period freshman Robb Roy had Concordia's best chance with a wide open net that just missed wide with 3 minutes remaining in the first.

The second period turned out much like the first for Hamline as they added another three goals to the scoreboard, however the Cobbers were able to match Hamline with three goals of their own. Outshooting the Piper's 15-5 in the second period, Concordia gave themselves some of the best scoring chances on the night. The Cobbers power play unit proved to be successful as freshmen Erick Galt and Jared Collen each put in one goal, while sophomore Michael Weiss lit the lamp during full strength play. Picking up the intensity late in the period, all three goals for the Cobbers came during the last six minutes of the period. Junior Shawn Goos had assists on two of the three Cobber goals.

As the final buzzer sounded, the score was 9-3 in favor of the Piper's despite being outshot by the Cobber's 34-30. Cobber goalies Elliot Okland and Joe Duncan split the goaltending duties for the evening as Okland came away with nine saves on the night while Duncan accounted for 12. Concordia is still in search for their first win on the year as they host Hamline for the second part of this series on Saturday, November 15, at 2:00pm at the Moorhead Sports Center.
