Gameday Game Recap:

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (11/08/08)-- The Concordia men's hockey team is still searching for their first win of the season after leaving Lake Forest, Ill. on Saturday. Despite outshooting Lake Forest 58-33 the Cobbers surrendered a 2-0 lead in the second period and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Foresters. CC is now 0-4 on the year and has lost by a single goal in each of their last three games. Lake Forest snaps a three-game losing skid and moves to 2-4 on the season.

The 58 shots on goal for Concordia is the most since the start of the 2006-07 season when they posted 59 against Northland on Nov. 4.

The Cobbers jumped on the Foresters in the first period and it seemed that CC was poised for their first win of the year. Jared Collen scored his first collegiate goal for Concordia when he netted a power play goal at 7:59. Mark Johnson and Shawn Goos posted the assists on the goal. Kevin Nolt then added to the CC lead at 15:38 on an assist from Matt Nordhagen to give the Cobbers a 2-0 lead heading into the break. In the first period, Concordia outshot Lake Forest 17-4 and held the play in the Foresters end for the majority of the period.

Lake Forest turned the game around in the second period. They countered with two even-strength goals in the first 10:24 of the frame. The Cobbers then regained the lead at 14:54 when Collen scored his second power play goal of the game. Erik Hedman was credited with the assist on the play. The second period was more even with CC holding a slim 13-11 edge in shots on goal.

Lake Forest scored the only goal of the third period. Zach Kosak scored the first of his back-to-back goals for the Foresters to tie the game at 11:44. The Cobbers once again outshot Lake Forest in the period putting up 19 shots in the 20 minutes. Unfortunately CC was never able to get the puck past Forester goalie Brandon Kohuch and the teams were destined to play another five minutes.

In overtime CC out up nine shots on goal but once again could not find the net. Kosak then ended the game with just :32 left in the extra period. His goal at 4:28 put a cap on the comeback for the Foresters.

Concordia was 2-for-10 on the power play and kept Lake Forest from scoring on their seven man-advantage attempts. Cobber goalie Mike Persson made 29 saves and Kohuch stopped 55 of the 58 shots he faced in the game.

The Cobbers will open MIAC next weekend when they host Hamline for a two-game series on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Sports Center.
