Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/07/08)-- They say close only counts in horseshoes. On Friday close counted for a lot for the Cobbers. Concordia dropped an impressive 2-1 decision to No.1-ranked, and defending national champion, St. Norbert in Green Bay, Wis. The loss is a testament to how well CC is playing early in the 2008-09 season. The Cobbers even had a chance to tie the game in with :05 left on the clock but a shot from just in front of the goal was knocked wide by the Green Knioghts goalie.

St. Norbert remains unbeaten in their last 32 games. During that stretch they are 29-0-4 and have played only six game that were settled by only one goal. The one-goal margin of victory is the narrowest of the season for the Green Knights. St. Norbert improves to 4-0 on the year and Concordia falls to 0-3.

The Green Knights scored the first goal of the game. St. Norbert got on the board at the 6:41 mark when Brandon Longley scored on the power play. It was his third goal of the year. Concordia answered that goal with a power play goal of their own with less than a minute left to go in the opening frame. Knut Bitustoeyl banged a shot off the pipe and by St. Norbert goalie Blake Bashor with :36 to play in the period. It was the first goal of the year for Bitustoeyl.

St. Norbert then got the eventual game-winner early in the second period. Cory Harder scored his second goal of the year on a shot from the point that had Cobber goaltender Elliot Okland did not see because of a screen in front of the net. The goal at 3:35 would be the final score of the game as both defenses tightened down and the two goalies shut the door on the other team's offense.

The power play continues to be a thorn in the side of the Cobbers early in the season. After going 1-for-11 in the season opener last weekend, CC was 1-for-7 against St. Norbert. The Green Knights were 1-for-3 on the man advantage as the discipled Cobbers took only four penalties in the game as compared to eight for St. Norbert.

Okland made 36 for Concordia and Bashor turned aside 28 shots in goal for the Green Knights.

The Cobbers will go looking for their first win of the year when they play at Lake Forest (Ill.) on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
