Concordia gave up three goals in the first 10 minutes of play against Gustavus and fell 6-1 to the Gusties in St. Peter on Friday. Matt Cosmos scored his sixth goal of the season as CC fell to 1-22-1/0-14-1 MIAC.

Gameday Game Recap:

ST. PETER, Minn. (2/22/08)-- Concordia gave up four power play goals against Gustavus and could never recover as they fell 6-1 to the Gusties in St. Peter on Friday. The Cobbers lose for the 10th straight time. CC is now 1-22-1 overall and 0-14-1 in the MIAC. With the win, Gustavus clinches a spot in the MIAC playoffs. The Gusties are now 12-11-1 overall and 9-6-0 in conference play.

The game wasn't even a minute old when Concordia gave up the first goal of the game. David Martinson scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season just :46 seconds into the game to stake GAC to a 1-0 lead. martinson would be one of six Gustavus players to score on the night.

The Cobbers were able to tie the game at 1-1 before the 3:00 mark. Matt Cosmos scored on the power play at 2:56 to bring the game level at 1-1. Ryan Clukey and Alec Holen were credited with the assists. For Holen it was his team-leading 13th helper of the year.

That would be the final goal of the game for the Cobbers as the Gusties scored two more goals less than six minutes later. They would add a power play goal in the second just 2:22 into the period and then two more power play goals in the third period. For the game, Gustavus went 4-for-12 on the power play. Concordia scored their lone goal on one of four power play attempts in the game.

In the three periods, Gustavus outshot Concordia 67-16. Sophomore goalie Mike Persson made 61 saves in the game to set a new school record. The old record was 57 stops set by Dave Morinville in 1976 and duplicated by Kevin Sorenson in 1978.

Gustie goalie Matt Lopes made 15 saves in the game to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Concordia will finish off their 2007-08 season by completing their two-game series with the Gusties on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2:05 p.m.
