Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/09/08)-- Alec Holen and Cory Johnson had a goal and two assists each but it wasn't enough as Concordia gave up four first-period goals and lost 6-5 to Augsburg on Saturday. The biggest play of the game came in the final minute of play when Ryan Clukey had a chance to bring the game even but his shot on a 2-on-1 break hit the post and ricocheted away from the goal.

The loss in the final home game of the season drops the Cobbers 0-11-1 in conference play and 1-19-1 in all games. The Auggies sweep the series and move to 3-9 in the MIAC and 5-14-2 overall. The victory is the third in the last four games for the Auggies.

The biggest news for the Cobbers in the game is that they were able to outscore their opponent in the second period for the first time in five games. After trailing 4-2 after one period, CC scored a pair of goals in the second frame and held the Auggies to a single score to get to within one at 5-4 heading into the final period of play. Neither team was able to score through the first 14 minutes of play in the third period and then they produced back-to-back goals in 15 seconds. Augsburg's Cory Ellertson scored the eventual game-winning goal at 14:45. CC freshman Matt Nordhagen then countered that goal at 14:59 when he scored his first collegiate goal.

Concordia then had four chances to score in the final five minutes of play but could never come up with the equalizer.

For the game, Augsburg outshot Concordia 36-31. In the series, the Cobbers held a 77-74 edge in shots on goal. On Saturday, Auggie goalie Andrew Kent turned aside 26 shots to pick up his second win of the series. He is now 5-9-1 on the year. Concordia goalie Mike Persson went the distance and made 30 saves and was saddled with his seventh loss of the season.

Besides Holen, Johnson and Nordhagen, Concordia received goals from Shawn Goos and Clukey. Augsburg got a pair of goals from Dave Carroll and added scores from Ellertson, Chris Johnson, Kellen Chamblee and Jim Jensen.

Both teams scored a pair of power play goals on the day. Concordia went 2-for-6, while the Auggies were 2-for-5.

Concordia will hit the road for their final two series of the season. The Cobbers will play at St. John's next weekend. They will square off against the Johnnies on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m and Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the national Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
