Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/02/08)-- Concordia scored a pair of goals in the third period but their late-game rally fell just short as No.8-ranked St. Thomas held for a 4-2 win over the Cobbers in Moorhead on Saturday. Senior forward Dustin Holland scored both goals for CC and netminder Jeremy Boniface made 45 saves in the losing effort. The loss keeps Concordia winless in their last 18 games. CC is now 1-17-1 on the year and 0-9-1 inside MIAC play. The eighth ranked Tommies improve to 14-4-1 overall and 8-2-0 in the conference. UST has now won five straight over the Cobbers.

The two teams skated through a scoreless first period. Concordia was able to hold off the consistent St. Thomas offensive pressure in the first 20 minutes. Boniface stopped all 19 shots in the period.

The Tommies finally broke on the board in the first three minutes of the second period. Adam Davis scored his 10th goal of the game on the power play 2:03. Nate Ryan added a second goal for UST less then three minutes later. His 15th goal of the year at 4:56 gave St. Thomas a two-goal advantage at 2-0.

Concordia was never able to muster any kind of offense in the first two periods of play. Through the first 40 minutes, the Cobbers had six shots on goal. That would change in the final period when CC was bale to get 13 shots on goal and score two goals.

The Tommies turned a two-goal lead after two periods into a four-goal advantage on goals at the 6:30 and 11:00 marks. Sean Bryant and Rob Johnson scored for St. Thomas as four different UST players scored in the game.

CC finally got on the board 1:37 after the Tommies netted their fourth goal. Holland notched his first goal at 12:37 with assists going to Kevin Torkelson and Isaac Vatnsdal. Holland then added a second on the power play at 15:35. Shawn Goos and Knut Bitustoeyl were credited with the assists on the power play tally.

That would be as close as CC would come. The Cobbers did get a power play chance with 35 seconds to play but were never able to get a shot off after pulling Boniface in favor of having a 6-on-4 opportunity.

For the game, St. Thomas outshot Concordia 49-19. The Tommies were 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Cobbers went 1-for-8. CC has now scored a power play goal in each of the last three games.

Tommie goalie Cameron Voss made 17 saves to earn his second win of the season.

Concordia will host their final home series of the season next weekend when they play Augsburg on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Sports Center.
