Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/13/08)-- Concordia's offensive woes continued against No.8-ranked UW-Stout on Sunday in Moorhead. The Cobbers had only 14 shots on goal and lost 4-0 to the nationally-ranked Blue Devils. CC has now lost 12 straight games and is 1-12 on the season. Stout ends their one-game losing streak and ups their overall record to 12-3-1.

Neither team turned in an explosive game on the offensive side. The teams combined for only 42 shots in the game as the Blue Devils outshot Concordia 28-14.

It took Stout over 12 minutes to get on the board in the first period. The Blue Devils finally broke through on a goal by Derek Hanson at the 12:26 mark. It was Hanson's 14th goal of the season. The first period was played mainly in the neutral zone with Stout holding an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of play.

The streak of troublesome second periods continued for the Cobbers as they allowed two goals and were outshot 5-4 in the middle frame. CC has now been outscored 35-7 in the second period this season. Stout collected a pair of special teams goals in the period when they received short-handed goal at 6:46 from Jake Erickson and then a power play tally at 17:30 from Jeff Wheeler. For Erickson it would be the first of two goals in the game.

Erickson notched his second goal in the third period. He collected an even-strength goal at 7:03 to finish off the scoring in the game. The third period was even less offensive than the first. The two teams combined for a total of 10 shots on goal in the period. Stout outshot CC 5-4 in the final 20 minutes of play.

The power play unit continues to be a source of concern for Concordia. The Cobbers were 0-for-7 on the power play against the Blue Devils and allowed a short-handed goal. In those seven power play attempts, CC generated only five shots. Concordia is 0-for-17 in the past two games and has given up three short-handed scores. In the past four games, the Cobbers are 2-for-27 (7.4%) in man-advantage situations.

Cobber goalie Josh Hand made his first start of the season and made 24 saves in the game. He lowered his season goals against average to 4.80. Stout goalie Mike Stone stopped 14 shots to pick up his first shutout of the season and fifth overall in his career.

Concordia will return to MIAC play when they travel to Northfield for a two-game series at St. Olaf on Friday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.
