Concordia allowed five second-period goals and lost 9-0 to No.6-ranked UW-River Falls on Friday in River Falls, Wis. The Cobbers have now been outscored 33-7 in the second period this season. CC is now 1-11-0 on the year.

Gameday Game Recap:

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (1/11/08)--The second period continues to haunt the Cobbers. Heading into their game against nationally-ranked UW-River Falls, Concordia had been outscored 28-7 in the middle frame, which included a 5-2 difference in a pair of losses in Vermont over the Christmas holiday. The No.6-ranked Falcons jumped all over the Cobbers in the second period, scoring five goals and cruising to a 9-0 win. The loss is the 11th straight for Concordia who falls to 1-11-0 on the season. River Falls wins for the third straight time and improves to 12-2-3 on the season.

The two teams battle through a close first period with the Falcons getting the only goal of the frame at the 12:46 mark.

With the score 1-0 at the start of the second period, the floodgates opened less than one minute into the period. River Falls scored just :53 seconds into the frame on a power play goal. They added a pair of short-handed goals less than one minute apart four minutes later. UWRF finished off the scoring in the decisive period by scoring a power play goal at 9:05 and then adding a fifth goal in the period at the 19:09 mark. For the 20 minutes, Concordia was outshot 26-4.

The third period turned into mere formality with the Falcons notching three more goals in the first 11:08 of the period.

The Cobbers went 0-for-10 on the power play and allowed two short-handed goals. CC is now 11-for-78 on the power play for the season and is 2-for-20 in man-advantage situations in the last three games.

For the game, Concordia was outshot 51-17. Jeremy Boniface started the game and played the first two periods. He made 30 saves in the first 40 minutes. Josh Hand came on in the third period and stopped 12 shots. River Falls also split time with two goalies. Stephen Ritter played the first two periods and made 11 saves to earn his fourth win of the season. Matt Page came on in relief and had six saves in the final 20 minutes.

Concordia will jump from the frying pan into the fire when they host No.8-ranked UW-Stout on Sunday, January 13 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
