Gameday Game Recap:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/30/07)-- Concordia gave up six straight goals against Hamline after leading 3-2 in the first period and lost 8-3 in St. Paul on Friday. The loss is the fifth straight for the Cobbers and drops their overall record to 1-5-0 on the year. The game was the conference opener for CC. Concordia has now lost their last five league openers. The last time the Cobbers have opened MIAC play with a win was back in 2002 when they beat Bethel 6-4. The Pipers improve to 2-1-0 in the conference and 2-3-2 overall.

The bottom line for Concordia in the game was their inability to kill off Hamline power plays. The Pipers scored on six of their seven man-advantage situations. In the past two games, opposing teams have scored 10 power play goals in 13 attempts.

The teams skated through an even first 20 minutes of play. Hamline scored the first two goals of the game, both on the power play, and then CC rattled off three straight to take a 3-2 lead at the 12:40 mark of the opening period. Knut Bitustoeyl, Matt Cosmos and Brent Sands picked up the goals for the Cobbers. Bitustoeyl and Cosmos also had an assist in the period. The first two goals in the period, scored by Bitustoeyl and Cosmos, were power play goals for Concordia.

The lead would last for a full four minutes before the Pipers scored their third power play goal of the period just 22 seconds before the horn would sound. Cory Krogen's goal at 19:38 tied the game and signaled the start of Hamline's six goal barrage. Joe Long collected a hat trick in the game, as he netted the team's second, fifth and seventh goals.

Hamline added three more goals in the second period, one at the start of the period, one in the middle and one with under two minutes to play in the frame and then add two more in the third to put the game out of reach.

For the game, Hamline held a slim 36-33 edge in shots on goal. The two teams combined for 17 penalties in the game - all were minors. CC was whistled for nine penalties for 18 penalty minutes and HU went to the box eight times for 16 penalty minutes.

Cobber goalie Jeremy Boniface made 28 saves in the game and Hamline goaltender Zachary Faust stopped 30 shots to earn his first win of the season.

The two teams will finish their series on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at Drake Arena.
