Gameday Game Recap:

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (11/03/07)-- Concordia gave up four goals in the first 16 minutes of the game against UW-Stevens Point and went on to fall 4-2 on Saturday in Stevens Point, Wis. The loss is the first of the year for the Cobbers who beat UW-Eau Claire 2-1 in the season opener on Friday night. The Pointers also even their 2007-08 record at 1-1. They lost to St. John's 5-3 on Friday.

The first period settled the entire game as Stevens Point scored all four of their goals and before the clock hit the 17-minute mark. The Pointers wasted little time in starting their scoring barrage. The notched their first goal of the game at 1:15 on an even-strength goal by Josh Calleja. Just over two minutes later, Stevens Point made the score 2-0 when Chris Conway scored at 3:48.

The Cobbers put a momentary bandage on the bleeding by pulling to within one at 2-1 when Kirby Markowsky scored his second goal in as many games at the 4:20 mark. Carl Babich was credited with the assist on the even-strength goal. Markowsky now has two goals on the year after not scoring once in 2006-07.

Stevens Point then finished off the first-period goal fest by scoring two more goals 3:19 apart. The first came on a power play goal at 13:04 by Russell Law. After Lee's goal, Concordia starting goaltender Mike Persson was pulled and replaced by junior Jeremy Boniface who picked up the win on Friday. Boniface fared little better than Persson as he conceded a goal at 16:23, just 3:19 into his night.

In the first period, Stevens Point outshot the Cobbers 19-12 in a frame that saw nine penalties and 22 penalty minutes.

The final goal in the game was scored at the 6:24 mark of the second period when Blaine Gamst put home his first goal of the season after an assist from Chris Babich.

The two teams then skated to a scoreless draw for the remaining 33 minutes of the game. Concordia finished by taking 12 penalties for 26 penalty minutes in the game. This came on the heels of the Cobber win when they took only six penalties against UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers were whistled for 15 penalties and collected 32 penalty minutes.

Persson finished his short stint in goal by stopping four shots. Boniface played the final 46:06, allowed only one goal and made 34 saves. Stevens Point netminder Marcus Paulson made 26 saves to earn his first win of the year.

The Cobbers will host their home opener on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. when they square off against Lake Forest (Ill.). CC will then host 2006-07 national semifinalist St. Norbert on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Sports Center.
