BLAINE, Minn. (02/02/07)-- There was no need for a deeper look into the game statistics to find out why Concordia fell to Bethel on Friday. The five unanswered third-period goals are all the proof that was needed to show the difference in the Cobbers' 8-2 loss to the Royals at the National Sports Center - Super Rink.

The loss is the eighth straight for the Cobbers who remain winless since the calendar turned to 2007. CC is now 6-12-0 overall and 2-7-0 in the MIAC. The Royals win for the third straight time and the fourth in the past five games. They are now 9-8-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the MIAC and in sole possession of second place.

Bethel jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period behind a pair of even-strength goals less than two minutes apart, midway through the opening period.

Concordia got on the board at the 3:19 mark of the second period when Sean Lofgren netted his third goal of the year. The Royals then regained the two-goal cushion three minutes later before Cobber sophomore Cory Johnson sent the teams into the second intermission with a goal at 15:00. Johnson's goal was his fourth of the year and featured an assist by Lofgren who had two points in the game.

Through the first two periods, the Cobbers were outshot 36-17 but were within one goal heading into the final 20 minutes. In the third period, Bethel scored five goals on 14 shots on net. They only held a 14-11 margin in shots on goal in the final period of play but came away with a 5-0 edge in goals.

The biggest scoring surge for the Royals came midway through the final frame when they scored a trio of goals less than five minutes apart.

For the game, CC was outshot 50-28. The Cobbers were whistled for five penalties as opposed to only one for the Royals in the relatively clean game. CC was 0-for-1 on the power play and BU went 1-for-5. The Royals netted their lone power play goal with 2:01 left to go in the game.

Jeremy Boniface played the first 50:41 in goal for the Cobbers and stopped 38 shots. Josh Hand came in after the sixth Bethel goal and made four saves in 9:19 of action. Royal goalie Aaron Damjanovich turned aside 26 shots to earn his fifth win of the year.

The two teams will finish off their series on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. at the National Sports Center - Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
