Gameday Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn.-- The Concordia 2005-06 season finale was a testament to a team that had been through a long and trying journey. The Cobbers fought all the way to the final buzzer and proved that sometimes the score on the board doesn't necessarily reflect the true winner on the court.

Concordia (6-18/5-15 MIAC) pressed and pressed in the second half but was never able to string together key baskets and lost to playoff-bound Hamline 69-60. Duane Siverson's crew never gave up despite playing the majority of their conference season without three of their top five players. Despite losing 12 of their final 13 MIAC games, the Cobbers were close in every game and always gave 100% to the last second of the game.

The difference in the game on Saturday was the Pipers' ability to push the ball up the court and get baskets from in close. Hamline (11-14/10-10 MIAC) finished the game with a 38-14 advantage in points scored in the paint despite being outrebounded 34-26. The Cobbers also held a 10-4 margin in second chance points, furthering the strength of the Pipers' ability to quickly push the ball into the offensive end.

Jason Miller, one of the two healthy seniors, finished his career with an atypical game for the hard-working inside player. Miller finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. He constantly pounded the glass and was the lone presence inside the lane for Concordia. Sophomore sniper Brock Citterman had a team-high 16 points for the Cobbers. He also came away with nine rebounds.

Senior Charley Good, playing in his final regular-season game, had a game-high 18 points and was 9-of-12 from the floor. Sam Wiener went 5-of-6 from the field and added 14 points.

Concordia's perimeter defense limited the Pipers to only 15.4% (2-of-13) shooting from 3-point range. Hamline shot 49.1% (28-of-57) from the floor. The Cobbers undoing came from inside 10-feet. Concordia hit on 36.5% (19-of-52) of their shots from the floor. They routinely missed layups that would have tightened the game at critical points. The Cobbers did knock down 50% (6-of-12) from behind the arc.

Hamline will play at St. John's on Tuesday at 7:30pm in the first round of the MIAC playoffs.
