Gameday Recap

ST. PAUL, Minn.-- Despite only scoring 20 points in the first half and struggling from behind the arc, Concordia found themselves down by only six points at 39-33 with 12:32 remaining in the game against league-leading St. Thomas. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Cobbers would come for the rest of the game and fell 63-44 to the Tommies on Wednesday in St. Paul.

The loss drops Concordia's record to 5-14 in the MIAC and 6-17 overall. With the win, St. Thomas secures at least a share of the MIAC title and the number-one spot in the upcoming MIAC playoffs. The win also moves the Tommies to 17-3 in league play and 20-5 overall.

Brock Citterman was the only Concordia player that scored over six points in the game. Citterman finished with a team-high 12 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists.

St. Thomas had three players that each totaled 15 points in the game. Bryan Schnettler, Isaac Rosefelt and Mike Keating shared game-high honors. Joey Shimek led all players with 10 rebounds.

After the Cobbers cut the gap to six points on a 3-point basket from Eric Meichsner midway through the second half, St. Thomas went on a 17-2 run in the next six minutes to tuck the game into bed.

Citterman then broke the Concordia drought with a 3-point basket and Gavin Ganab added a layup as the teams traded points for the rest of the game.

For the game, Concordia shot 40.0% (18-of-45) from the floor and a mere 14.3% (2-of-14) from 3-point range. St. Thomas hit on 42.9% (24-of-56) of their shots from the field and only 28.0% (7-of-25) from behind the arc.

The Tommies outrebounded the Cobbers 39-25 in the game and turned the ball over 14 times as compared to 18 by Concordia. The big difference in the turnover department came in the scoring department as St. Thomas turned the Cobber miscues into 26 points as opposed to only seven for Concordia off of the Tommie errors.

Concordia will finish off their season on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they host Hamline at 3:15pm.
