Gameday Recap

NORTHFIELD, Minn.-- Concordia used the age old mathematical formula of: 38 points + 31.9% shooting percentage + 23 turnovers = loss in their 61-38 defeat against St. Olaf in Northfield on Saturday.

The Cobbers were held to 18 points in the first half, shot 31.9% (15-of-47) from the field and coughed the ball up 23 times in dropping their fifth straight game. Concordia is now 4-9 in the MIAC and 5-12 overall.

The Oles, suddenly one of the hottest teams in the league, win for the fourth consecutive time and now find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt. St. Olaf is 6-7 in league play and 8-10 overall. They are currently tied seventh place, only .5 games out of the sixth, and final, playoff spot.

The 38 total points scored by the Cobbers represents the lowest single game total since Jan. 5, 2000 when Concordia lost 60-36 at Macalester.

Freshman Cody Dyshaw came off the bench to lead the Cobbers in scoring with nine points. Ryan Templeton led all starters with seven points. Brock Citterman had five points and a team-high five rebounds.

St. Olaf had four players score in double figures. Mark Bergstrom went 6-of-8 from the floor and finished with a game-high 13 points. Jon Bain had 12 points and Steve Banick and Chad Norberg each added 11 points.

The game was a relatively clean affair with both teams combining for only 13 free throws. Concordia committed only 11 total fouls and went 6-of-9 from the line while the Oles were whistled for 17 fouls and were only 3-of-4 from the free throw stripe.

Besides the ice-cold shooting percentage from the floor, Concordia was also Antarctic-like from behind the arc. The Cobbers shot 13.3% (2-of-15) from 3-point range and in the past three games have shot 18% (9-of-50) from long range.

St. Olaf outrebounded the Cobbers 35-27. The Oles shot 48.2% (27-of-56) from the field and 30.8% (4-of-13) from 3-point land. St. Olaf also outscored Concordia 34-20 in points from around the basket and turned the 23 Cobber miscues into 34 points.

Concordia will stay on the road to finish off their back-to-back road game weekend when they play at St. Mary's on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3:15pm. The game can be heard live on the web at: www.cord.edu/dept/sports/broadcast.php
