Gameday Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn.-- Concordia continued to improve with their new-look lineup but couldn't overcome a hot shooting Gustavus squad and fell 66-54. The Gusties shot 60.5% (26-of-43) from the field and 91.7% (11-of-12) from the free throw line in picking up the 12-point win.

The Cobbers built an opening lead of 14-4 in the first 7:23 of the game but weren't able to make it last and fell for the fifth straight time. Concordia is now 4-8 in league play and 5-11 overall.

Gustavus, the two-time defending MIAC champion, stops their one-game losing skid and improves to 8-4 in the MIAC and 13-4 overall. The Gusties move into third place in the league, just 2.0 games behind league-leading St. Thomas.

Concordia sophomore Brock Citterman was dormant in the first half, scoring five points and missing both of his 3-point attempts. He exploded in the second half to finish the game with a team-high 19 points and knocking four of his eight shots from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes. Jason Miller was the only other Concordia player that scored more than six points in the game. Miller had 18 points and had four rebounds.

Gustavus had four players score in double figures. Andrew Olson led all scorers with 21 points. He went 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Phil Sowden went 5-of-8 from the field and finished with 12 points. Adam TeBrake, averaging 16.8 points entering the game, was held to 11 points - his third lowest total of the season. Jay Stien grabbed a game-high six rebounds.

After shooting just 5.0% (1-of-17) from 3-point range on saturday against St. John's, Concordia rebounded to shoot 40.7% (22-of-54) from the field and 33.3% (6-of-18) from behind the arc.

Gustavus' high shooting percentage was a direct result of their ability to get the ball underneath the basket. The Gusties outscored Concordia 40-24 in points in the paint and connected on 20 layups in the game.

The Cobbers will take to the road for a pair of road games over the weekend. Concordia will play at St. Olaf on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3:15pm. They will then turn around and play at St. Mary's on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3:15pm. Both games can be heard via the internet at:
