MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Concordia senior preseason All-American Keith Eckhoff (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) it was announced on Thursday.

He is the first player in program history to earn the Academic All-District First Team honors as voted on by CoSIDA. He is also one of three men's or women's basketball players from the MIAC to earn the prestigious honor and is the only player from the conference to earn first team honors. Eckhoff carries a 3.72 grade point average and is majoring in Elementary Education.

Because of his first team award, Eckhoff will now be placed on the ballot for Academic All-American honors.

The honor is given to athletes in the College Division of the Academic All-American award. The College Division includes players from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana schools. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to be nominated. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

Eckhoff was named to the 2005-06 preseason D3hoops.com All-American Team and then tore his ACL after the Cobbers' eighth game of the season. He then underwent season-ending knee surgery.

At the time of his injury he was second in the MIAC in scoring. During his brief stint during the season he became the 10th player from Concordia to score 1,000 points in a career. He currently has 1,019 points which places him eighth on the all-time list for career points scored by a men's basketball player at Concordia.

Last season Eckhoff was named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region Second Team and was a member of MIAC All-Conference First Team. He finished third in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (47.9%) in 2004-05. His ability to hit the long-range shot  helped the Cobbers lead the nation in 3-point field goal percentage last year.

Eckhoff was also 24th in the nation, and second in the MIAC, in scoring last year. He score 30-plus points in six games

He is also the MIAC record holder for consecutive free throws made in a game (16).
