ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (1/2/10)-- Concordia exploded in the second half and outscored Bethel 35-20 on their way to a 68-53 victory in Arden Hills on Saturday. The win is the fourth straight for the Cobbers who raise their overall record to 7-3. CC is now 3-2 in the MIAC.

The biggest advantage for the Cobbers came around the basket where CC outrebounded the Royals 40-20. Cobber All-Conference forward John Fraase was practically unstoppable as he went for a game-high 16 points and a season-high 18 rebounds. It is the fourth double-double of the season and Fraase is now averaging 12.5 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game this season.

With the score tied at 33-33 at the half, Concordia came out in the second period and went on a 19-4 run in the first nine minutes of play to grab a 52-37 lead and take command of the game. During that stretch, the Cobbers were 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the floor, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 4-for-5 from the free throw line. On the other side of the ball, the CC defense did not allow a field goal for 7:06 and limited the Royals to only 1-for-10 from the field and forced three turnovers.

Once the Cobbers grabbed the 15-point lead, they refused to let Bethel get back in the game and eased the lead to 22 points with 5:24 play. From there, Bethel would only be able to close the game with five straight points to get the final margin to 15 points.

Concordia had four of its five starters score in double figures. Besides Fraase's 16 points, Darrin Olmscheid had 15 points, four rebounds and two steals. Karl Olson was 6-for-7 from the free throw line and finished with 11 points. The one free throw miss for Olson ended a streak of 15 straight made free throws for the junior guard. Cobber sophomore Johny Molina was 4-for-7 from the field and added 11 points. It is the second time in the last three games he has scored in double figures.

Bethel (5-4/1-3 MIAC) had only two players with more than six points and was led by the tandem of Chris Vavra and Taylor Hall who both had 11 points. Chris Breuer had a team-high five rebounds.

Concordia held the edge in all shooting statistics. The Cobbers were 22-for-47 (46.8%) from the floor and 5-for-12 (41.7%) from 3-point range. CC was also 19-for-24 from the free throw line. The Cobbers connected on 11 more free throws than the Royals who were 8-for-15  (53.3%) from the foul line. BU went 21-for-54 (38.9%) from the field and 3-for-12 (25.0%) from behind the arc. The 38.9% field goal percentage is the lowest of the year for Bethel.

Concordia will remain in the Twin Cities and play at Augsburg on Monday, January 4 at 7:45 p.m.
