Gameday Game Recap: (recap courtesy of UST SID)

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/03/08)-- Junior guard Joe Scott scored 17 of his career-best 26 points in the second half to lead the No. 6-ranked Tommies (4-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) to a comeback win over visiting Concordia (2-3, 0-1) in MIAC men’s basketball play Wednesday night at UST’s Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies, who ran their home MIAC win streak to 35, shot just 28% from the field in the first half. They trailed by three at halftime and fell behind 31-25 on Darrin Olmscheid’s 3-pointer in the first minute of the second half.

Scott scored eight during a subsequent 12-1 run – capped by a fast-break dunk – to put the Toms ahead to stay at 37-32. His 26 points were his Schoenecker best and matched 2007-08 scoring games in road wins last winter at Bethel and at Hamline.

The Cobbers never got closer than five thereafter, as UST made 19-of-24 at the foul line to hold off the visitors. St. Thomas had only six turnovers and helped force 21 turnovers by Concordia. UST shot 59% in the second half and finished at 42% on the game.

Concordia outrebounded UST 39-29. Olmscheid had 14 points and eight rebounds, and John Fraase had 14 points and 12 boards. Ryan Hagemeyer added 11 points for the Cobs, who made eight treys and shot 46% from the field.
