Gameday Game Recap:

MORRIS, Minn. (11/16/07)-- It wasn't the most ideal start of the 2007-08 season for the Cobbers. Concordia allowed the first eight points of the game in their season-opener at UM-Morris and went on to lose 86-73. CC fell behind by 20 points at the break, but was able to outscore the Cougars 43-36 in the second half.

It is the fourth straight season-opening loss for the Cobbers who are now 2-8 in their last 10 season openers.

The game started out with UM-Morris taking an 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. The Cobbers missed only one shot during that stretch and turned the ball over four times. The first CC basket came at 17:28 when senior Luke Linz hit a jumper. From there, CC would get as close as 12-9 and then 20-17 before the Cougars went on a decisive 20-6 run to push the lead to 40-23. UMM then closed out the half by scoring the final six points to push the lead to 20 points and take a 50-30 lead heading into the second half.

Linz had 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Erik Johnson chipped in six and no other Cobber player had more than three points in the half. CC shot 45.8% (11-of-24) for the half but turned the ball over 15 times and was only 1-of-7 from 3-point range.

Concordia was able to get their game legs underneath them in the second period as the CC freshman started to feel more comfortable with the collegiate pace of play. In the second half, the Cobbers turned the ball over only nine times, was 4-of-12 from behind the arc and had four players score at least six points. They shot 53.1% (17-of-32) from the floor in the second period and finished the game by shooting 50.0% (28-of-56) from the field.

Morris shot 55.0% (33-of-60) for the game and was 8-of-20 (40.0%) from 3-point range. The Cougars outrebounded Concordia 35-29 and turned the ball over 19 times.

Linz led all scorers with 25 points for the Cobbers. He was a perfect 11-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. His 100.0% field goal percentage marks the first time in the last 20 years a Concordia player has been perfect in a game while attempting more than 10 shots. It is also the second straight year that Linz has scored 25 points in the season opener. Last year he notched 25 against MSU Moorhead. Linz also had a team-high seven rebounds.

Besides Linz, the Cobbers had only one other player in double digits in scoring. Freshman Erik Lien was 3-of-5 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line and had 10 points in his first collegiate contest.

The Cougars placed three players in double figures for the game. They were led by Phil Allen who went 9-for-15 from the floor and finished with 21 points. Will Jensen added 18 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Corey Kelzenberg had a game-high 10 assists.

Concordia will host MSU Moorhead in the home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
