Track and Field - Linda was the MIAC champion in the shot put, discus and javelin and established MIAC records in all three events. She placed in all three events at the NCAA Division III National meet.

Mark Rice, '87

Football, Hockey, Baseball - Mark was voted the Cobbers' Most Valuable Player in both hockey and baseball, and earned All-American status in hockey his junior and senior years.

Malcolm "Molly" McLeod, '83

Wrestling - Molly was a four-time MIAC wrestling champion and an All-American all four years at Concordia and captured second place in the NCAA Division III Meet his senior year.

Ralph Halvorson, ' 81 - Football

A starting linebacker on the 1978 MIAC championship and NAIA Division II National Championship football teams. All-American in 1980.

Charles Olson, ' 70 - Football and Track and Field

As a freshman, he won the long jump championship at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Meet. Earned all-conference honors in football on offense and defense.

Brent Reichert, '79 - Tennis and Basketball

Four-time NAIA All-District award winner in tennis. Also earned all-conference honorable mention honors in basketball. A standout student/athlete, he maintained a 3.98 GPA at Concordia

Michelle (Thykeson) Cota, '91 - Basketball

Ranks third on the all-time Lady Cobber scoring list. Named to four consecutive NCAA West Region All-Tournament teams. During her four years at Concordia, Cota led the Cobbers to an overall record of 96 wins and 17 losses, including a 72-8 conference record and a 54-game home winning streak.

Fred Hashley, '73 - Wrestling
Won three straight MIAC heavyweight wrestling championships from ’71-73' and was a three time All- Lutheran heavyweight champion.

Kris Kuehl, '92 - Track and Field
A member of the U.S. Olympic Team that competed in Sydney in 2000 and won the discus at the 2002 USA Track and Field Championships. She won the NCAA Division III national championship, and set a Division III championship meet record in the discus in her senior year.

Roger Lindahl, '84 - Football
Named the MIAC Co-Most Valuable Player and was an All-America NAIA Division II honoree as an inside linebacker on the Cobber football team.

The point guard for the 1982 national championship women’s basketball team.

Raleigh Lillemoe ’65 - Football and Wrestling
Lillemoe played center and was the co-captain of the 1964 national co-championship football team. He also wrestled, winning the MIAC title at 165-pounds during his senior year. He was named to two MIAC All Conference wrestling teams.

Mark Jordahl ’82 - Hockey and Tennis
Mark Jordahl was the first recipient of the Arthur Ashe Award, presented to the best overall representative of MIAC tennis, that emphasizes scholastic achievement, sportsmanship and service to others. He was also earned Academic All American recognition. He played wing on Cobber hockey teams that reached the finals of the NAIA national tournament in 1979 and that qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament in 1981.

Dan Olson ’82 - Football and Baseball
Olson was the starting safety on the 1981 NAIA national championship football team, and was an MIAC All Conference performer in football and baseball.

Pam (Olsgaard) Nielsen ’86 - CC and Track & Field
Nielsen was chosen the MIAC most valuable women's track athlete in 1986 after setting the conference record in the 400-meters. She was a four-time participant in the NCAA Division III national championship meet and twice earned All-America honors in the 400 meters and once in the 1600-meter relay.

Dr. Armin Pipho 1976-2003 -

Athletic Director & Chair of Physical Education and Health
Pipho led the athletic department for 27 years, overseeing the creation of many women's intercollegiate sports programs and the construction of the Olson Forum. Pipho's legacy is one of solid management, highly competitive teams with stable coaching staffs, and a level of student participation that far exceeds national averages.

Timothy J. Anderson ’85 - Baseball
“Yogi” Anderson was a a four-year starter at catcher who earned All-Conference honors and was selected as the MIAC Most Valuable Player after his senior season in 1985.

Susan Ekberg Risher ’82 -
An outstanding scorer and rebounder, Susan Ekberg averaged 15.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game during her career from 1980-82. She was a key member of the 1982 AIAW Division III National Championship Basketball Team. She was named to the 1981 and 1982 Minnesota All-State teams, the 1981 AIAW All-Region team, and earned All-America honors in 1981 and 1982.

John A. Mutschelknaus ’80 - Cross Country
John Mutschelknaus was an outstanding cross country and distance runner from 1976 to 1980. He is the school record holder in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter and the indoor 3,000-meter and 2-mile distances. In 1980 he was the MIAC champion in the 5,000-meter event and advanced to the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet. He also participated in the 1979 NCAA National meet in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter distance runs.

Daniel L. Fahrman ’74 - Football
A three-year starter at quarterback, Fahrman was equally skilled as a passer and runner, setting a school record of 4,195 total yards in his career. He was MIAC All-Conference his junior and senior seasons and, following his senior season in 1973, he was selected the MIAC Most Valuable Player and first team quarterback on the All-Lutheran College Team. That season he averaged 5.5 yards per rush, 12.8 yards per pass and 102.7 total yards per game.

Robert J. Nick ’65 - Football
Bob Nick has been an assistant football coach and Physical Education faculty member for 41 years. He quarterbacked the 1964 NAIA Co-National Championship football team and was one of three Cobbers named to the MIAC All-Conference Team that year. Nick was also the captain of the 1964-65 basketball team.

Aaron Banks '96 - Track & Field
Aaron Banks ’96 is one of Concordia’s most honored track athletes. From 1994 to 1996 he was a national runner-up four times and a NCAA Division III national champion three times, winning the 1995 and 1996 indoor shot put titles and the 1995 outdoor discus championship.

Donald “Bucky” Burgau - Baseball
Bucky Burgau is the winningest baseball coach in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 343 wins, and has coached the Cobbers to 555 overall wins in his 30 years as baseball coach. Burgau is also the equipment manager for all Concordia athletic teams. In 1995 the Cobbers went 30-8 and won the MIAC championship and advanced to the NCAA playoffs, finishing second in the Midwest Regional.

Chris Coste - Baseball
Chris Coste attended Concordia from 1993 to 1995. He is a catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies professional baseball team. During his playing career at Concordia, Coste was a three-time All-American and three-time MIAC Most Valuable Player as a pitcher and third baseman. He holds 15 Cobber career baseball records, including hitting (.442); hits (162); RBIs (110); home runs (19); and ERA (2.11).

Dwight Hintermeister '82 - Football
As a defensive lineman, Dwight Hintermeister ’82 played
a prominent role in two national championship football teams. He was voted most outstanding freshman and was a sophomore starter on the 1978 national championship team that went 11-1 with six shutouts. In 1981 the Cobbers were undefeated, winning the MIAC title and the national championship with an 11-0-2 record.

Patricia Kubow '89 - Basketball
Patty Kubow ’89 helped lead the Lady Cobber basketball team to its best four-year record, with 104 wins and only 13 losses from 1985 to 1989. During this period, the Lady Cobbers were NCAA Division III national champions in 1987-1988; national runners-up in 1986-1987; winner of three straight MIAC championships from 1985 to 1988; and NCAA West Region champions 1986, 1987 and 1989.

The Rev. Carl Lee
The Rev. Carl Lee ’52 founded the chaplaincy program for the Cobber football team, a source of deep personal joy for him. Lee became Concordia’s first campus pastor in 1961 after students requested a pastor to serve their needs. Lee held that role for 34 years until retiring in 1995.

Steve Baumgartner '82 - Hockey
Steve Baumgartner is one of the most outstanding performers ever to play Cobber hockey. He was a four-year starter at center and was a natural leader both on and off the ice. He was an attacker who could control the puck, pass and score with ease, then quickly become an effective backchecker on the opposite end of the ice. He was a player who could lift the abilities of his teammates through his own play and his ability to deliver timely assists.

Jeff Neil '85 - Wrestling
Jeff Neil was an All-American caliber performer and one of the most outstanding wrestlers in Concordia athletic history. He owns the record for most takedowns in a career, and is a three-time All-MIAC champion. He was twice selected – in 1983 and 1985 – as the most outstanding wrestler in the MIAC.

1987-88 NCAA National Championship Team
The 1987-88 Cobber women’s basketball team added emphasis to their third consecutive MIAC championship by winning the NCAA Division III National Championship in front of a packed house in Concordia’s Memorial Auditorium.

Then known as the Lady Cobbers, they rolled to the national championship with Final Four wins over UNC-Greensboro, 103-66 in the semifinal game, and a 65-57 triumph over St. John Fisher College in the championship game. They finished with a 29-2 season record and 21-1 in the MIAC.

On this team were three MIAC Most Valuable Players, five All-Americans and five individual inductees into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame. It included the all-time career scoring leader who was named the 1988 NCAA Division III Female Athlete of the Year, and the all-time MIAC record holder for assists in a game, season and career. The depth of the team is indicative by the number of players who are still on the Cobber all-time lists in scoring, rebounding, shooting percentage and assists.

Collette (Buhr) Folstad - Women's Basketball
Collette Folstad was the first coach of the Cobber women’s basketball program in the Title IX era and set the stage for the national championship season in 1981. She compiled a record of 115 wins and 45 losses in six seasons from 1974 to 1980. Her teams won Minnesota intercollegiate titles and advanced to regional tournaments, and produced numerous all-state and all-region players and Concordia’s first All-American.

Mike Hassman '91 - Men's Hockey

Mike Hassman, an outstanding hockey player, was a first team All-American, MIAC most valuable player and a three-time MIAC all conference player. As leading scorer for the Cobbers, he set records for most points and goals scored over three seasons.

Dave Klug '80 - Football

Dave Klug, an all-round athlete at Concordia, earned All-American honors as a defensive end in football his senior season. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 1980 NFL draft and played four seasons for the Chiefs. Klug joined the Cobber coaching staff in 1988.

Kris (DeBoer) Smith '89 - Track and Field

Kristin (DeBoer) Smith won seven MIAC long jump titles, eight conference triple jump championships and was a six-time All-American. She still holds Cobber records in the triple jump and long jump.

Tim Tinglestad '82 - Men's Tennis

Tim Tingelstad was a member of the champion MIAC golf team and an Academic All-American golfer during his senior season in 1981. He was a three-time All-MIAC selection.
